Reciprocal Linking

I know that a lot of you are wondering what Reciprocal Linking is? I am about to tell all about it and the importance of Reciprocal Linking. Basically, it is swapping links with another site or directory. Many site owners are doing it because it is one of the major factors of increasing your page rank with the Search Engines.

The theory is really simple, I will allow you to put a link, pointing to your site, on mine and in return you place a link, pointing to my site, on yours. We have just swapped links and everyone is happy. The Search Engines look for outgoing links pointing to your site to determine how IMPORTANT your site is. If you have hundreds of links from all over the internet linking (pointing) to your site then the Search Engine robots think that your site is important. The more important your site is the higher page rank you receive and the higher you're listing is on the Search Engine rankings.

The key is to try and get Reciprocal Links with websites that have high page rankings. The Search Engines see that you are getting linked to sites that have high page rankings and they think that your site is important so they move you up the listings. Google, for example, ranks pages from 0 to 10 a page rank of 0 means that the site has not been indexed while a page rank of 10 means that you are a REALLY important site. There are not many 10's on the internet. The 8's, 9's, and 10's of the web are companies like Google, Yahoo, and Amazon and if you can get linked to them then you have just hit a homerun.

It is not just about how many links you can get but it IS about how many links you can get with higher page ranked sites. I would rather have 40 Reciprocal Links with sites of page ranks of 4, 5, and 6 then 100 links with sites with a page rank of 1, 2, or 3. I hope you are beginning to see the picture. If you are going to be successful online then you need to utilize Reciprocal Linking.

It is important to find quality link partners with solid page rankings. Do not get sucked into using Link Farms and things like that because they just do not work and they will have very little impact on your sites ranking in the Search Engines. Go after quality links and you will improve the traffic to your site and get better listings in the Search Engines. Reciprocal Linking is vital to having a high traffic site and will lead to online success. It will NOT happen overnight because it takes time to find link partners. There are some software systems that can help you with your linking. Programs like Zeus that will find linking partners for you so you do not have to spend your time scouring the Search Engines looking for sites to link with.

One more thing if you ask for someone to link to you and they request a link back you need to reciprocate with a link. It is not ethical to ask for a Reciprocal Link from a site and then NOT put up their link after they have linked to you. There is quite a bit of that going on so make sure you do not do it and don't let it happen to you.
